Solaris 11.3 iso download

Add disk2 40 GB. Once create new disk option is selected it will open a dialog for selecting the type of hard disk file type.

The total storage will not be utilized and will grow as data is added. After this mention the file name, location, and size. I kept the size as 40GB as we will use this disk for software installation. After this click create which will create the disk. After adding all the disks the storage configuration in the VirtualBox for the VM would look like below. After the disks are added in the VM we have to configure this in the OS that it can be made visible for use by other applications.

Once the disks are added physically in the VM it has to be setup in the OS so that can be further used. Since it is Solaris we will be using ZFS as the file system on these disks. This shows that there is only one ZFS pool existing which is the root pool rpool which is created with the OS install. Disk c1t2d0 is currently unused and we will use it to create another ZFS pool for installing the Oracle software.

Once the new pool has been created we have to create the Oracle Base directory and mount it to the new pool. Before we can go ahead with further installation of any Oracle software it is essential to setup correctly Oracle user with correct groups.

If ASM is to be used then cluster should be installed. As per Oracle recommendation, we should have separate Oracle and Grid users for the same. However, for my case, I have kept single Oracle user for ease of use for both functionalities.

The below setup for user and groups I have done accordingly with my own custom user and group ids. However, if you wish to follow Oracle recommendations or want to use your own company standards please feel free to do that.

The method and commands for doing that remain the same. Note : The group vboxsf belongs to Virtual Box. I have added this to facilitate the use of shared folders. If oracle is part of this group then it can easily read and write directly to the shared folders. Once the user is created for activating the user we need to set the password for the same. Once the password is set for the user then we can login to the user.

Once the Oracle user is created the main mount point that we wanted to use Oracle software installation should be now assigned to Oracle as the owner. We will have to change the ownership to oracle so that it can be used by oracle for further installation.

Verify after changing the ownership. Once the Oracle user has been setup we will finish allocating disks for ASM as well. Depending upon the requirement the size and number of disks to be used for ASM can vary. For my small usage I will be allocating only 2 disks each for each diskgroup.

Since ASM is highly flexible adding disks we can as per need add addtional disks to either diskgroups as per requirement. In case of space constraint I can easily new disk of same size and attach it to the required diskgoup.

Once the disk has been selected for further configuration we will go ahead with partitioning of the disk. Enter partition id tag[unassigned]: usr Enter partition permission flags[wm]: Enter new starting cyl[1]: Enter partition size[0b, 0c, 1e, 0. We can enter the above size in terms of size MB, GB or cylinders c.

In our case we have gone cylinders as the numbers are visible and we can easily identify it. In partitioning it starts the partition from cylinder 1 and not 0 as cylinder 0 is kept aside for labelling requirements which we will also do.

Once the partitioning has been completed we will now label the disks so that we can easily identify in ASM. We will now try to list out all the currently avaialable disks.

What we have to consider is the major and minor numbers as listed above which we will use while labelling. For labelling creating logical device name we use the command mknod. Currently, these are owned by root however for ASM to use it effectively we will change the ownership to Oracle.

We have now finished the creation of a new VM with Solaris In the next blog entry, will cover the installation of Oracle You are commenting using your WordPress.

Home About Setting up Solaris Education 4 hours ago The short answer is yes, with limits, Solaris 11 can be used without fee for personal, non-commercial, non-production use.

This use is limited to 'developing, testing, prototyping and demonstrating' applications using Solaris , but the terms are loose enough that pretty much any personal, non-commercial, non-production use is allowed.

IPS also enables users to create their own software packages, create and manage package repositories, and copy and mirror existing package. The distribution constructor creates a USB image that works in various types of flash memory devices that have driver support provided by the Oracle Solaris operating system.

The usbcopy command is available in the distribution-constructor package. You can use the distribution constructor to create the following types of Oracle Solaris images:. You can also customize the content of this ISO image, for example, by adding or removing packages. In addition, you can revise the default settings for the resulting booted environment to create a custom ISO image or USB image. For more information about customizing the image content, see Modifying the Manifest Content.

You can use the text installer on systems that do not have graphics cards. The installations can differ in architecture, packages installed, disk capacity, and other parameters. For information about using the automated installer, see Installing Oracle Solaris
